A Basis for AGM Revision in Bayesian Probability Revision

چکیده
Abstract In standard Bayesian probability revision, the adoption of full beliefs (propositions with 1) is irreversible. Once an agent has belief in a proposition, no subsequent revision can remove that belief. This unrealistic feature, and it also makes incompatible change theory, which focuses on how set modified through both additions retractions. problem theory be solved model (i) lets codomain function hyperreal-valued rather than real-valued closed interval [0, 1], (ii) identifies as propositions whose either 1 or infinitesimally smaller 1. this model, changes will result (belief set), constitutes submodel conceived “tip iceberg” within larger contains lower levels probability. The patterns coincides corresponding pattern slightly version AGM commonly gold (dichotomous) change. modification only concerns marginal case by inconsistent input sentence. These results show dichotomous unified one same framework, – if we so wish subsumed under allows for iterated removal beliefs.

Bayesian updating rules and AGM belief revision
We interpret the problem of updating beliefs as a choice problem (selecting a posterior from a set of admissible posteriors) with a reference point (prior). We use AGM belief revision to define the support of admissible posteriors after observing zero probability events and investigate two classes of updating rules for probabilities : 1) ”minimum distance” updating rules which select the poster...

AGM-style revision operators are defined for several systems of classical modal logic. · · · draft of November 28, 2009 · · · Within AGM, consistency maintenance is done by classical logic. But the reliance on classical consistency presents a problem for exporting AGM revision to non-classical logics in general, and to modal logic in particular. A general technique for solving this problem is t...
متن کاملOn Iterated Revision in the AGM Framework
While AGM belief revision identifies belief states with sets of formulas, proposals for iterated revision are usually based on more complex belief states. In this paper we investigate within the AGM framework several postulates embodying some aspects of iterated revision. Our main results are negative: when added to the AGM postulates, our postulates force revision to be maxichoice (whenever th...
متن کاملAGM Belief Revision in Monotone Modal Logics
Classical modal logics, based on the neighborhood semantics of Scott and Montague, provide a generalization of the familiar normal systems based on Kripke semantics. This paper defines AGM revision operators on several first-order monotonic modal correspondents, where each first-order correspondence language is defined by Marc Pauly’s version of the van Benthem characterization theorem for mono...
